I totally forgot that I already had an old round horn anvil in the barn. Draftshoer said: Does anybody have a copy of this book? I posted in my other thread that I have been wanting an anvil with a round horn. I would appreciate it if anyone has the book if they would look that up for me. The reason I was wondering about the book is I understand there is a section that tells the age of anvils by the serial number. It needs a little work but I think I am going to fix it and use it for a while. Are they usually in the same place and if so where on the anvil should I look? Since the Hay Budden anvil I bought yesterday has a fairly heavy coat of green paint I cannot find the serial number or weight mark. Patterson Estate- Lot 26A- Antique Hay Budden 94. 94-pound blacksmith's Anvil, serial number 78286. I laid a straight edge across the top and is pretty nice and flat. Has the serial number 42337, with a 1 1/16 hole & approx 5/8 hole. Pretty nice flat top and good corners with good ring and rebound. Hay Budden Blacksmith Anvil in excellent condition, 165 lbs. My personal thinking is an anvil can be capped by using T1 plate and brass to bond the cap plate to gtunes musicapp base, although I've never tried it. Here is my anvil and one of my leg vises. I sometimes come off as an hay budden serial numbers snob,' sorry. I dug it out this morning and turns out it is an old Hay Budden, about 80 lbs. Does anybody have a copy of this book?
